DISCOVERY MINING ADVANCES THE PRACTICE OF E-DISCOVERY WITH BREAKTHROUGH ‘RELATED DOCUMENTS SEARCH’

Customers Benefit from Online Review Efficiency Unique to the eDiscovery Market with  Leading Related Documents Functionality, Foreign Language Search and Time Series Analysis

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 29, 2007 — Discovery Mining, a leading Automated Discovery technology company, today announced the release of Review Engine 8.5, the next-generation version of its hosted software that stores, categorizes, searches and produces electronic documents for organizations involved in litigation, investigation, regulatory compliance or mergers and acquisitions. Discovery Mining’s Related Documents, Foreign Language Search and Time Series Analysis accelerate the speed and increase the accuracy of their Am Law 200 and Fortune 1000 customers’ eDiscovery Review —whether hosting and processing electronic data in the United States or in Europe.

Review Engine 8.5 features include:

  1. Related Documents Functionality: Developed with proprietary code and based on proven semantics technology, Review Engine 8.5 provides General Counsel and law firm clients the ability to filter out near-duplicate documents at the point of review.
    1. Near-Duplicate Detection: Review Engine 8.5’s Near-Duplicate Detection allows an attorney to identify similar documents ‘on the fly’ across the entire document collection. This process, providing the ability to filter out near-duplicate documents at the point of review, offers more accuracy and better risk management than other providers, who filter at the front-end of the process without lawyer input. Near-Duplicate Detection happens directly within the application, supervised directly by reviewers who can take action on multiple documents with a single click.
    2. View Differences: Review Engine 8.5 provides an industry-first ability to effectively highlight differences between a target document and related, near-duplicate documents, easily calling attention to subtle but potentially important textual differences.
  2. Foreign Language Search: Review Engine 8.5 dramatically increases search accuracy for reviews that include foreign language documents. Its ability to determine in real-time whether one, two, or multiple languages are contained in any document distinguishes it from other review tools which pre-define and pre-categorize documents as single language, potentially missing vital information. Clients will benefit from significant time savings and reduced risk.
  3. Time Series Analysis: A chronological overview of the document collection, or select subsets, can be critical investigative tools to assist litigators and investigators in building the case story.  Time Series Analysis enables search results to be visibly narrowed to an exact date and time.

“Law firms and corporations struggle with how to accurately store, search, categorize and produce massive volumes of electronic data in a cost-effective manner. Reducing risk is imperative as the nature of litigation becomes more global and complex,” said Matthew Work, Discovery Mining CEO. “We are proud to be a technology leader in eDiscovery and to continue to meet our clients’ needs with innovative solutions.”

According to a recent report by Forrester Research, the e-discovery market, which in 2006 was worth close to $1.5 billion, will grow to almost $4.9 billion by 2011—an increase of 238 percent in five years.  With Review Engine 8.5, Discovery Mining is at the vanguard of litigation technology advancement, designing innovative, hosted software that revolutionizes the use of artificial and human intelligence for Automated Discovery.
